What's Inside

Four sheets, one dashboard

01

Daily Tracker

One row per day. Type dine-in, takeaway, and delivery sales, discounts, covers, and how guests paid. Gross, net, and spend per cover calculate themselves.

02

Month Dashboard

Reads the tracker automatically. Total and average daily revenue, your best day, spend per cover, and the split across channels and payment modes, all live.

03

How to Read It

What each number means, why a rising delivery share can shrink your profit, and the questions a slow week should make you ask.

04

Plain-English Instructions

How to fill it in a minute a day, what to enter for aggregator orders, and why you track the sale value, not the payout.

Do all of this automatically with Petpooja POSS

The tracker needs you to type each day in. Petpooja POSS captures every sale as it happens and shows you these numbers live: revenue by channel, covers, spend per cover, and the day-over-day trend, with no data entry at all.

Why This Matters

Busier Does Not Always Mean Better Off

Most restaurant owners know their total sales for the day. Far fewer know their spend per cover, their channel mix, or how those are moving week to week. That gap is where money quietly leaks.

Take a month where revenue is up ten percent and everyone feels good. Look closer and the growth was all delivery, which carries a heavy aggregator commission, while dine-in slipped. Revenue rose, profit fell, and the daily total never showed it. That is revenue leakage in plain sight. Only the channel mix does.

Spend per cover is the number to watch. If you served the same number of guests but each spent less, you are working just as hard for less money, usually because of discounting or a drift toward cheaper items. A daily total hides that completely; net revenue divided by covers exposes it in one figure.

None of this needs a data team. It needs one row filled at the end of each day, and a dashboard that turns those rows into the three or four numbers that actually decide whether a good month was also a profitable one.

This tracker does exactly that. If you would rather skip the daily entry altogether, a restaurant POS captures every sale as it happens and builds the same picture live.

What the dashboard tells you

Here's a preview of what you'll get inside:

Total & average: ₹3,35,400 net this month across 7 days tracked, averaging ₹47,914 a day, best day ₹68,400
Spend per cover: ₹587 average across 571 covers, the number that tells you if guests are spending more or less
Channel mix: dine-in 48%, delivery 38%, takeaway 13%, so you see at a glance where the money actually comes from
Payment mix: UPI 43%, cash 30%, card 27%, with a daily check that flags any day the payments do not tie to sales
... all of it read automatically from the Daily Tracker, plus the How to Read It guide, across 4 sheets.
Key Stats

The numbers that actually move profit

₹/cover

Net revenue divided by guests served. The clearest single signal of whether your business is getting healthier or just busier. A daily sales total cannot show it; this can.

Spend per cover, on the dashboard
3 channels

Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, tracked separately. Delivery growth carries heavy commission, so a shift toward it can lift revenue while quietly shrinking profit. A profit margin calculator shows the gap.

Channel mix, on the dashboard
1 min/day

One row at close of business is all it takes. The month dashboard, spend per cover, and both mixes build themselves from those rows.

6 Things Restaurants Get Wrong With Numbers

01

Watching only the daily total

The total can rise while profit falls. Without the channel mix and spend per cover, a good-looking day can be hiding a bad trend.

02

Recording the aggregator payout, not the sale

Delivery apps take a large commission. If you log the money that lands in your account, your revenue looks wrong and your channel mix is meaningless. Log the full sale, track commission separately.

03

Ignoring spend per cover

Same guests, less money each, is the most common quiet decline. Only net revenue divided by covers catches it.

04

Not counting covers at all

No covers means no spend per cover, and you lose the single most useful number. Even a rough guest count beats none.

05

Never reconciling payments to sales

If cash plus card plus UPI does not equal net sales, something is unrecorded. The tracker's daily check catches it as part of your day-end close.

06

Comparing to someone else's benchmark

Spend per cover swings wildly by city, cuisine, and format. The only comparison that means anything is your own last month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is spend per cover, and why does it matter?
Spend per cover is your net revenue divided by the number of guests you served. It is the clearest single measure of whether your restaurant is getting healthier. If your daily total is flat but spend per cover is falling, you are serving the same guests for less money each, usually through discounting or a drift to cheaper items. A daily sales total hides this completely; spend per cover shows it in one number, which is why the tracker asks you to log covers every day.
How do I record Zomato and Swiggy orders?
Enter the full sale value of the order in the delivery column, not the amount that lands in your bank after commission. Aggregators take a large cut, so the payout is well below the order value, and if you log the payout your revenue and channel mix both go wrong. Record the full sale so your revenue picture is honest, and track the commission as a separate cost. This is also why a rising delivery share deserves a close look: it can lift revenue while shrinking profit.
How is this different from a daily sales report?
A daily sales report is mainly a record of sales with the GST breakup, for compliance and your books. This tracker is an operational dashboard: it focuses on covers, spend per cover, channel mix, and payment mix, and it shows you trends rather than tax. Many restaurants use both, the sales report for the accountant and this tracker to run the floor.
Do I have to fill it in every single day?
It works best as a one-minute habit at close of business, because trends only show up when the days are complete. If you miss a day, leave the row blank; the dashboard simply averages the days you did fill, and the day count tells you how many that was. The more consistent you are, the more useful the spend-per-cover trend becomes.
What if I do not want to type it in daily?
Then let the billing do it. A restaurant POS records every sale as it happens and produces the same revenue, covers, spend per cover, and channel and payment mix live, with no daily entry. This tracker is the free, manual version of exactly that.
